‘Nuages Gris 1881’ are drawings made with a tennis ball covered in charcoal powder. The technique is inspired by the basketball drawings made by North American artist David Hammons.
The drawings were made in connection with Si Proche / Si Loin & Collective Intelligence experimentation days and exhibition at Myymälä2 Gallery in Helsinki.
The title comes from Franz Liszt's piano piece, composed in 1881, in which he radically foreshadows the experimentalism of European composers that would soon follow, with the gradual destruction of traditional harmony and its dissolution into colour.
